Race Report: 2013 Wadworth Devizes Half-Marathon, Wiltshire, UK

Steve from Events Logic sent us this report from the weekend’s Half Marathon in Wiltshire:

Over four hundred athletes, some representing local clubs and some from further afield, turned out on Sunday to run in the Devizes half-marathon, the second  to be held in the town for some years. The race was organised by Events Logic UK and sponsored by Wadworth and Company Ltd,and Care uk , Care uk where present on the finish line to hand out finishers medals and goodie bags.

Devizes mayor, Councillor Pete Smith, welcomed everyone and started the race from The Green, right in the heart of historic Devizes. Runners then set off,  to much encouragement from spectators, running  just over thirteen miles.  The course took competitors through attractive outskirts and on a tour of the villages Etchilhampton, All Cannings and Coate before looping back onto Nursteed road and finishing on The Green.

The first to finish was a delighted Gary Till from The Army athletics Association. Gary stormed over the finish line in a very speedy one hour and nineteen minutes. The women’s race was won by Fiona Cramp, from Bitton Road runners, who romped over the finish line in one hour twenty six minutes.

There was a great turn out from residents and spectators along the route to support all the competitors, whether they were more experienced athletes or those taking on the distance for the first time.  Rick Lavens was the first to finish in the veteran men’s race (over 40 years) in a nifty one hour twenty six minutes. The first veteran women’s finisher (over 35 years) was Ruth Tucker in a very respectable one hour forty minutes.  In the super veteran category (over 50 years) Stephen Golding finished first in a superb one hour twenty six minutes and Julie Golding won the women’s super veteran category in a speedy one hour forty two minutes.
First Male over 60 was Steve Herring in 1 hour 49 minutes ,first Female over 55 was Mary Chapman in 2 hour 4 minutes.

All those finishing first in their category became Events Logic UK race record holders for this event. As we have set a new course this year, Events Logic spokesman, Luke Shipway / Steve Fream, hoped they would all return on October 19th 2014 to defend their race records.

This years Wadworth Devizes half marathon was in support of Bag4sport Charity.
