Race Report: Bath Skyline 10km, UK, 20th January 2013

This report from Tom Room at Relish Running Races:

Over 170 runners braved near arctic conditions to take place in the 3rd Bath Skyline 10km event of the winter. There had been some doubt about whether the race would go ahead, but thanks to Bath Golf Club who allowed us to reroute the course over their fairways, we were ready and excited for the first Snowy Skyline 10km!

The snow on the course was still powdery soft and not too deep on sections around the University. When runners made it to the golf course however, drifts of snow up to knee height were scattered around the route which made for a tough, but very unqiue and fun running experience.

By the time the runners came to the drinks station at the beginning of the lap 2, the marshals were busy breaking up the ice that had formed on the top of the cups! Not deterred, the runners headed on to lap 2 which now had the benefit of a clearly marked route and compacted snow.

The ladies winner was Team Bath’s Lizzie Wraith who looked very strong and convinvingly claimed the victory on her come back from injury. The men’s race was won by Jose Manuel Pabon of Ealing Eagles who managed to break away on lap 2 to give himself a 45 second margin of victory.

A big thank you has to go to all the marshals, first aiders and supporters who made this event possible in steady minus two degrees centigrade. As well as to our race hosts at Team Bath and Bath Golf Course for helping us with the last minute course adjustments.

The final race in the Skyline 10km series is on 17th February; come rain, shine or snow we will be there. And we hope you will join us for this perfect last minute Bath Half tune up race. All race details are at www.RelishRunningRaces.com
