The latest on the club runners from Lancaster & Morecambe AC, courtesy of Road Captain, Louise Gardner:
Lancaster & Morecambe Athletic Club held their annual mid-week 10km road race last week and 150 people turned out for the event. Despite the sweltering temperatures there were some great performances by local athletes.
Clear winner of the race was Danny Parkinson from Kendal AC in a time of 30m.43. First back for Lancaster was Raymond Edgar, with a superb run of 36m.30 placing him seventh overall, followed by Tony Jewitt in 13th with a strong run of 37m.44 and 15th position Peter Twigg running well in 38m.01.
First local female was Katherine Cousins with an excellent time of 45m.33. Katherine was well backed up by Tracey Bruce in 50m.04 and Anne Dareys in 51m.00.
Other local finishers: Mark Holgate 38m.28, Steve Jenkinson 39m.58, Paul Smith 40m.15, James Edwards 40m.55, Gareth Richardson 42m.17, John Riach 44m.33, Nick Higham 44m.58, Andrew Haley 46m.58, George Parrington 49m.20, Bill Gardner 51m.05, Emily Stapleton 51m.44, Miriam Rosen 56m.59, Linda Stapleton 1h.05.10 and Lindsey Higham 1h.09.43.
The following day saw several Lancaster runners enjoy a successful visit to Caldervale Supper Run. Tony Jewitt was well up the field once again, finishing well in 23m.15 for fifth place overall. Lancaster & Morecambe ladies really excelled, taking the top three places – Helen Booth was first woman and seventh overall in an excellent time of 24m.10, followed by Maria Snell in 11th with a good 25m.26 and in 15th place Hannah Fleet with a strong run of 26m.24.
Other good performance came from Steve Perry in 26m.25, Mick Leck in 27m.15 and Mike Peat in 28m.21.
