The latest on the club runners from Lancaster & Morecambe AC, sent in by Road Captain, Louise Gardner:
Lancaster & Morecambe AC runners have been enjoying success in local races in the last few weeks.
The Wagon & Horses half marathon saw a good number of club athletes take part. First back was Steve Worthington, with a superb effort of 1h.14.40 placing him third overall. In next was John Spooner, with a good run of 1h.38.35 placing him 21st, followed by Mick Leck who took first veteran 60 place in 1h.42.32. The only female for Lancaster was Liz Hickingbotham who ran well in 1h.52.59. Other finishers: Andrew Haley 1h.50.45, Michael Roy 1h.58.52 and Jo Harman 2h.16.12.
The fourth race in the Lancaster Saturday night 5km series had over 70 participants and first local back was Mark Holgate, taking ninth position with an excellent time of 17m.42. Finishing close behind in 10th and 11th respectively was Tony Jewitt running strongly in 17m.49 and Jack Husband in 18m.04, with Jack taking first veteran 55 place. Helen Booth finished second in the women’s race with a fantastic run of 18m.25 and she was well backed up by Maria Snell taking third place with a fine run of 19m.22 and Nikke Kay running 20m.49.
Other finishers: James Edwards 18m.57, Jim Stewart 20m.28, Louise Goddard 21m.21 first veteran 45, Mark Proctor 21m.37, Claire Nance 22m.23, Helen Murphy 22m.34, Carole Wilkinson 22m.52, Alex Mounsey 23m.12, Liam Brabbins 23m.17, Gorge Parrington 23m.48, Michelle Whitton 26m.25, Linda Stapleton 28m.46 first veteran 65, Richard Stapleton 29m.27, Helen McGregor 29m.56 and Mark Leadbeatter 30m.01.
At the Blackpool half marathon two Lancaster runners took part; Michael Roy just beat Tony Jewitt to the line, with Michael finishing 102nd out of almost 400 finishers in 1h.38.06 and Tony two places behind in 1h.38.09.
The two club runners at the SSAFA Saunter 10k at Holker Hall in Cumbria both won their respective age categories. Steve Perry had a strong run to finish eighth overall and first veteran 55 in 47m.45 and Evelyn Elkington took the first veteran 75 place with a super effort of 1h.08.06.
Lancaster’s Louise Gardner took part in the Wilne 10km and came away with third prize in the women’s race and finished 48th overall out of over 800 runners, with a good effort of 35m.29 in windy conditions.
