The latest on the club runners from Lancaster & Morecambe AC, sent in by Road Captain, Louise Gardner:
Several junior and senior teams from Lancaster & Morecambe AC took part in the Northern Athletics road relay championships recently, held in Stanley Park, Blackpool.
The Senior Men finished 61st overall in the six stage event; Mark Gardner went off on first leg running 23m.27, followed by Kieran Rowlands in 22m.36, with third leg John Spooner running 28m.49. Next off was Phil Lowery in 23m.52, followed by Steve Worthington who overtook 16 places with a time of 21m.44 and on final leg Mick Leck finished in 30m.02.
In the Senior Ladies race the club did not have a complete team but the three runners gave their best effort. Helen Booth took first leg in 19m.57, followed by Maria Snell in 20m.30 and Deborah Linnoak ran 27m.42.
The Under 13 boys finished in 15th position; Lucas Done ran 12m.02, handing over to Tyler Hanafin running 12m.14 and on final leg Curtis Done took four runners with a run of 12m.09.
The Under 15 girls finished 25th overall; first off was Abigail Routledge running 16m.26, followed by R. Hollindrake in 13m.48 and on final leg Shannon Perry overtook four runners with a time of 13m.45.
The Under 15 boys did not have a complete team and Thomas Knight ran the first leg in a time of 12m.13.
Eight Lancaster & Morecambe athletes took part in the Chester Marathon last weekend, with some excellent performances in conditions perfect for distance running.
First back for the club was John Carr, who finished well up the field in sixth veteran 50 position and 135th overall out of around 5000 runners. John’s time of 3h.02.40 was all the more impressive after coming back from a long lay-off with injury earlier in the year. In next was experienced marathon runner Tony Jewitt, running a strong race of 3h.17.43 to finish just in the top 300, followed by Katherine Cousins who ran a fantastic effort of 3h.35.06.
Other finishers: Gareth Richardson 3h.43.47, John Spooner 3h.49.16, Michael Roy 4h.00.51, Robin Bartlett 4h.02.21 and Ruth Bartlett 4h.36.35.
