The latest on the club runners from Lancaster & Morecambe AC, sent in by Road Captain, Louise Gardner:
The Trimpell 20 mile race organised by Lancaster Race Series last weekend pulled in a field of almost 500 runners, many of which were using the race as part of their spring marathon preparation. The race starts and finishes at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre and uses the area’s cycle paths to take the runners out towards Denny Beck, making for a scenic and fast route. Winner of the race was Ian McBride from Royton Road Runners in a fantastic 1h.51.20.
Several Lancaster & Morecambe AC runners were taking part and Peter Twigg was the first one home, running a superb effort of 2h.12.42 to finish 30th overall. In next was Tony Jewitt with a strong run of 2h.16.50 placing him 47th, followed by Mark Holgate running well in 2h.24.36 finishing 87th and Ian Wood running well for 2h.43.18. Other finishers: Lee Watson 2h.54.31, Helena Lewis 3h.08.21 and Julia Possener 3h.53.40. The organisers would like to thank sponsors JWK solicitors for their support and all the marshalls for their help in ensuring the safety of the runners.
A number of Lancaster runners took part in St. Anne’s 10 mile on the same day and first back was Daryl Hayton, who had a cracking run to finish third out of almost 300 finishers, with a super time of 57m.43. In next was Louise Goddard who took second veteran 45 prize with a strong run of 1.13.14. The Stapleton family were all taking part; Emily and her mother Linda finished together in 1h.40.27, with Emily’s father Richard following them in with a time of 1h.50.13.
