The latest on the club runners from Lancaster & Morecambe AC, courtesy of Road Captain, Louise Gardner:
Lancaster & Morecambe athletes have been busy racing throughout April, with many enjoying excellent marathon results after months of dedication and hard training.
At the popular Blackpool half and full marathons Lancaster were represented in both distances. In the half marathon Tom Hill had a strong run to finish in 1h.31.51 to take 77th place overall out of over 1000 finishers. George Parrington ran well in 1h.49.57 to take first veteran 65 prize and close behind was Colin Hewitt in 1h.50.22.
In the full marathon Tony Jewitt’s hard training paid off with a fantastic personal best of 2h.57.32 placing him well up the field of 640 runners in 16th position. Sarah Elliott was the only female from the club and she ran very well, with a time of 3h.48.45 placing her third veteran 35.At the Lochaber Marathon the Lancaster runners excelled despite conditions being far from perfect; Jayne Perry ran a fantastic personal best time of 3h.34.13, finishing 104th overall and 19th woman. Carole and Dave Wilkinson enjoyed excellent runs; both ran personal bests and picked up second place in their respective veteran 50 categories, with Carol just pipping her husband to the finish line with 3h.44.18 to David’s 3h.44.40. Greg Lambert also ran well in 3h.51.02 to finish 2nd in the veteran 60 category.
As always there were several Lancaster athletes at the London Marathon and all represented the club well over the challenging 26.2 miles. First in was Peter Twigg with a superb effort of 2h.53.50 placing him in 746th position out of over 35,000 finishers. Next was Simon Couchman with a fine run of 3h.05.09, closely followed by Tony Jewitt running 3h.06.10, an amazing run just two weeks after running Blackpool marathon. Christopher Didsbury ran well in 3h.21.51, followed by Paul Gardner with a good run of 3h.23.47, Gareth Richardson 3h.28 and John Spooner 3h.41.38. The first female for Lancaster was Clare Tipler, with a brilliant 3h.41 for her first marathon, followed by two other debut marathon runners Karen Kyle and Karen Cooper finished together in a good 4h.15.34. Also in her first marathon was Eden Parkinson in 4h.22.43 and Lisa Preston smashed her previous personal best by 12 minutes with 4h.30.25.
There was a good show of local runners at the Garstang Gallop with Sean Davis coming in first for the club with a great run of 42m.19 placing him 20th out of over 130 runners. In next was Louise Goddard, with a super run of 45m.26 placing her seventh female and first veteran 45 and just one second behind was Steve Perry finishing in 35th place. Next was Bill Gardner with a good run of 46m.53, followed by Dave Wilkinson in 49m.21, Emily Stapleton in 49m.40, Richard Singleton 1h.06.01 and Karen Davis in 1h.07.18.
