Malcolm Campbell claims overall title; Jill Horst takes female division for second consecutive year
Locals shine in St. Patrick’s Day event fielding more than 16,000 participants
Atlanta – March 17, 2013: A field of more than 16,000 registered participants hit the streets of Atlanta for the Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon on Sunday, March 17. Malcolm Campbell, of Marietta, Ga., won first place in the marathon with a time of 2:26:11. James Maunga, of Marietta, Ga., took second place with a time of 2:30:32, while Mitch Vanbruggen from Durham, N.C., earned third place with a time of 2:31:54. Jill Horst, of Rome, Ga., claimed her second-consecutive crown in the female division finishing at 2:58:24.

“It was a tremendously challenging course,” Campbell said about his first place finish. “The weather was a huge help for the runners today.”
Claiming the half marathon title was Andrew Heath, of Atlanta, Ga., with a time of 1:09:55. Placing second was Nathaniel Haskins from Atlanta, Ga., with a time of 1:11:11, and John Minen of Atlanta, Ga., took third with a time of 1:11:56. The top female finisher was Justyna Mudy of Rome, Ga., with a time of 1:18:50.
The race course traveled through metro Atlanta’s most interesting and historic areas including the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Decatur, Druid Hills, Virginia-Highland and Midtown. Along the way, runners will pass landmarks including the King Historic Site, Carter Center, four college campuses (Georgia State, Agnes Scott, Emory and Georgia Tech) and Piedmont Park.
