On Sunday Beer Blazer multi-terrain 10k, 5k and 1 mile races were held in the village of Beer on the East Devon Coast organised by Beer Primary School PTFA and supported by Axe Valley Runners.
With perfect weather as ordered a field of 93 runners took on the course over some of Axe Valley Runners famous ‘Grizzly’ territory which boasts stunning views of the Jurassic Coast, covering fields, tracks, a descent to Branscombe followed by a challenging 1km pebble beach, under cliffs, a long steep climb up the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ to reach the cliff top and open common and finally a fast downhill to the finish.
First home was Axe Valley Runner Tim Lenton in 39.25, second home was Axe Valley Runner Matt Clyst in 39.25 and hot on their heels in third place Alex Todd in 40.14.
First lady home was Exmouth Harriers Hannah Brown in 47.47, second place Axe Valley Runners Elenor Wood 50.42 and in third place was Beer girl Kate Vine in 51.12
In the 5k a field of 43 ran and the race was won by Charles Chambers in 21.26, second Ollie Caute 22.49 and in third place jack Elson in 23.00. First female home was Mia Bartlett 26.37, second Grace Haskins 27.22 and in third place Hannah Bramley in 27.25
The 1-mile race for the under 11’s was very well supported with 70 children taking part, first home was Chris Watson All Saints Primary School. followed by Beer Primary Schools Tim Doulton and third Joshua Rowe. First girl home was Imogen Waterhouse from Lyme Regis, second Sophie Clist and in third place Beer Primary Schools Darcie Morton.
The organisers would like to thank Richard Hales AVR advisor and all the other Axe Valley Runners who support this event and made it such a success, Pecorama who allow us to use their facilities, to all the land owners who kindly allow us to run their land and all the marshals who kindly gave up their time to help .
