Lodge to Lodge great success !
The 2012 Lodge to Lodge Half Marathon and Bayleys 10 km was a great success. Entry numbers exceeded last years with final count of 206. Additional to that the new kids race generated 47 children competing.
Fortunately the weather turned out fine for the event with the snow and hail storm of the day before leaving a photo perfect picture of the beautiful alpine surroundings.
Mt Lyford hosted the start of the Half keeping staff busy making pre-race coffees. 99 Keen runners and walkers started off at 9.30 am. Matt Bamford got in front right from the start and didn’t give his position up. Matt won the Men Open category in a time of 1:24:06. A fantastic effort! The Women Open race was hotly contested with a total of 32 competitors. The first woman over the finishline was Carrie Lee in a time of 1:35:50 with a lead of 6.5 min.
After cheering on the first contingent of half marathon racers going past, the 10 km race took off at 10.30 am with 107p. The youngest competitor competing in the 10 km race was the 9y old Alexandra Bidwell.
The Men 10K Open was won by Jonathan Phair in a time of 44:49. Megan Driller was the first 10K woman in a time of 48:23. At the finish line competitors and visitors alike enjoyed the market and the Grand Parade to follow.
A big Thank You to our main sponsors The Frontrunner and Bayleys Real Estate, Mt Lyford Lodge, Waiau Lodge Hotel and Mt Lyford Holiday Homes. And to all the volunteers who help make this event into a great success.
