Over 3,000 entrants signed up for the Skechers Performance Milton Keynes Marathon on Bank Holiday Monday 6 May with runners from all over the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. The 26.2 mile course took in the best of Milton Keynes, including tree lined city centre boulevards and beautiful scenic lakes.
This year the weather was glorious sunshine to show off the city at its best and the spectators came out in force to cheer on the brave participants on to their inspirational stadium finish at Stadium MK, home of MK Dons FC.
The Mayor of Milton Keynes got the runners on their way at 10 am after 30 seconds silence in memory of the Boston Marathon. When the main race had departed it was the turn of the Superhero Fun Runners who had turned out in force to run 2.6km and experience the thrill of crossing the finish line as a hero. Popular costumes were Batman and Spiderman, two Star Wars Storm Troopers from the UK Garrison led the runners over the start line of the race, aided by volunteers from Acorn Childcare.
First Man home and winner of the Milton Keynes Marathon 2013 was Edward Catmur in a time of 2:46:59 followed by Stephen Hodges in 2:47:13 and James Gordon in 2:47:44. First Lady was Andrea Green in 3:04:23, with Rebecca Mayles in second position in 3:08:29 and Sally Baker in third in 3:10:42.
The Geoffrey Leaver Corporate Relay Challenge was won by the Network Rail Team A Couple of Peanuts in a time of 3:00:28.
