The highlight of this first IAAF/AIMS marathon of the year 2013 was the clear course record set by Astrid Mueller (SUI). She profited from optimal weather conditions at this midnight marathon and finally beat her previous own course record by more than 15 minutes(!), finishing the marathon in less than 3 hours. Abby Knight (USA) arrived second and Micaela Racky (GER) third.
In the men’s race, Jan Fryc (TCH) celebrated a start-finish victory. Indeed, second-ranked Christophe Scherno (FRA) started to reduce his 4-minute gap in the second half, but still finished 1:20 minutes behind Fryc. In his first night race, Antonio Alegre Galbe (ESP) arrived on the third position.
A total of 632 runners from 34 different countries participated in the various races between 6 km and 42.195 km. 226 of them ran the full marathon, which is a new record.
