Race Report; Bag4Sport Abbeyfield Duathlon, Chippenham, Wiltshire, UK, 13th April 2014

Local sports company, Events Logic UK, held their Third duathlon and 9km race at Abbeyfield School on Sunday April 13th. A Fantastic spring day greeted duathletes as they lined up, ready to set off on a 5km run, 22km bike ride and another 5 km run to finish. The men’s race was won by Tim Purvey (Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds) in a time of 1:20:35. Tim was delighted with his performance, especially as fantastic spring conditions made the bike section very quick. 2nd Male was Adrian Giles and 3rd Male was Tim Richards. In the women’s race Natalie Thomas , set a blistering pace on the first run section and maintained this throughout to win in a course record time of 1:25:46. 2nd Female was Sarah Smith and 3rd female was Sarah Alvis.

Later in the morning, competitors of all ages lined up for 10km run race over great flat PB course. Athletes had an off road track to race on with some fast sections but also had to deal with some muddy sections of track too. The men’s race was won by Josh Taylor, from Team Bath Athletics Club. Josh, who has only recently taken up 10km running, decided to set off quickly and get ahead of the rest of the field. He maintained his position in front throughout, to finish in a time of 35:29. 2nd Male was Jonathan Griffin 3rd place male was Nathan Collinson. Anna Fisher completed the 9km course in 43:04 to win . Amy was delighted with her result . No doubt there will be other wins to follow! 2nd place female Laura Britton and 3rd place female was Julie Trudgen.

Sunday’s Events Logic UK extravaganza continued with a time trial over 22 km for cyclists. The bike course was designed to enable racers to get up to some good speeds but also included some steep sections for that extra challenge! Andy Morgan roared round this highly technical course to complete the time trial in 39:46

Finally, for younger athletes, Events Logic UK organised a 2km Fun Run. Charlie Haines took an early lead and maintained it to win the event in a very nippy 6:52. Alice Gates , was the first girl to finish in a time of 8:07. Look out for all these young athletes at the next Olympics in Rio!
