The latest on the club runners from Lancaster & Morecambe AC, courtesy of Road Captain, Louise Gardner:
The second Lancaster Marathon was held at the end of June and the challenging 26.2 miles takes the runners over some very demanding climbs over Quernmore. Winner of the race by 15 minutes was Gethin Butler with a fantastic effort of 2h.42.22. Four Lancaster & Morecambe AC runners took on the tough race and first back was Tony Jewitt, with a superb run of 3h.16.24. Next was Harry Bizkinship going under the four hour mark with 3h.55.53, followed by David Dann in 4h.43.51. Melaine Proud was the only female from the local club, doing well with a time of 5h.07.33. The organiser would like to thank their sponsors JWK solicitors and all the marshals for ensuring the race was a success.
The third race in the Pilling 10km series saw Paul Muller from Horwich RMI take his third win with 35m.54. Lancaster & Morecambe took second and third, with Allan Gordon running strongly in 36m.07 and Mark Gardner following with a good effort of 36m.32. Taking seventh place was Kev Wilson in 41m.00. Anne Dareys and Bill Gardner finished together in 51m.26.
The Lakeland trails marathon is a challenging, off-road race and four Lancaster athletes took part in this year’s event. First back for the club was Mick Leck, with a great run of 4h.33.19 for the tough 26.2 miles. Sean Davis and John Spooner finished together, running well in 4h.41.09. Sarah Elliott was the only female from the club, running a good time of 5h.02.29.
In the Lakeland trails half marathon John Carr was the only runner from Lancaster. John has recently returned from injury and enjoyed getting back to racing with a strong run of 1h.58.18 placing him 29th out of 150 finishers.
At the St. Anne’s Carnival 5k there were over 150 runners and Lancaster youngster Shannon Perry finished 74th with her grandfather Steve in 75th, both running very well in 23m.30.
