This race report was sent to us by Richard Kay, race director of the Wilne 10K:
Conditions: warm (about 15C), breezy, sunny.
It was a sell out race of 1,000 entrants on Wednesday last week. 835 finishers on race day (13 runners dropped out).
Despite the breezy conditions, Ian Kimpton ran 30:02 breaking the old male course record of 30:14 and Jilly Woodthorpe ran 34:38 breaking the old female course record of 35:06. Ian Kimpton winner of the 1st to 5k prize in 14:49 and Rebecca Robinson winner of the 1st to 5k in 16:56.
Notts AC’s Alastair Watson (30:31) and Alison Lavender of Oswestry Olympians (35:39) won the Midlands 10k Championships. Mark Johnson of Mansfield Harriers (31:38) and Louise Insley of Heanor Running Club (38:08) won the Midland Masters titles. The Derbyshire 10k Championship titles went to Daniel Haymes and Louise Insley.
Overall, another strong field of runners were present – 5 runners under 31mins, 21 under 33mins, 41 under 35mins.
