Athletes from Lancaster & Morecambe AC have been busy representing the club on the roads throughout May.
At the Blacksticks Blue 10k race near Preston first finisher for Lancaster was Sean Davis, with a good run of 42m.27 placing him well up the field of 183 runners in 29th place. Next was Maria Snell, with a great effort of 42m.51 earning her second female prize and finishing 31st overall. Jim Stewart followed with a fine run of 43m.43, with Sarah Elliott next in 47m.27. Chris McGuire ran well to take first veteran 50 place in 48m.45 and Zoe Hooton finished in 52m.48.
At the JWK Morecame Half Marathon runners were faced with gale force winds as they made their way along the prom to Hest Bank, but just over 100 runners battled their way through the conditions to complete the 13.1 miles. There was a good turnout of Lancaster runners with many picking up prizes; winner of the race was the club’s Ho Hin Henry Chan, who won by a clear margin in 1h.19.11, a fantastic effort in the tough conditions. Not too far behind was Phil Lowery who ran an excellent 1h.21.02 to finish fourth overall and first veteran 50. Also finishing in the top 10 was Luke Ham taking seventh place in 1h.27.54, followed in 10th by John Carr in 1h.29.03. Other finishers: Jon Sear 1h.32.28, John Riach 1h.50.13, Charlie Satterly 1h.50.48, Helen Catlow 1h.52.39, Gill Hamilton 1h.56.03, Karen Cooper 1h.58.45 and Niamh Lewis 2h.00.51. The first race in the Lancaster 5k Saturday night series was held last weekend, with over 80 runners taking part. There was a strong turnout from the local club runners and first back was Daryl Hayton who took full advantage of the flat, fast course to record a superb time of 15m.56 and finish in second place overall. Daryl was well backed up by team mates David Brown running well in sixth with a time of 16m.36 and Calvin Routledge in 16th with a good effort of 18m.01. First female for the club was Maria Snell with an excellent run of 18m.46 placing her second female overall. Next was Jayne Perry with a good run of 22m.08 and just behind was Alexandra Mounsey in 22m.09.
