KINGSTON, Jamaica … JANUARY 2013 – Athletes and healthy lifestyle enthusiasts can now register for the annual Rotary Club of Liguanea Plains’ 5K run / walk which will open the 2013 Running Events calendar.
According to race director Alfred “Frano” Francis, the run / walk will be held on Sunday, January 13 beginning at 7:00 a.m. at Hope Gardens. “All proceeds will be used to support the Rotary Club of Liguanea Plains’ educational initiatives at the New Providence Primary School and to assist in the acquisition of dental equipment for the National Chest Hospital,” Francis said.
He explained that as with all Hope Gardens events the race route will be as follows:
“Participants will start in the Gardens then proceed along the Historical pathway and exit through the Historical Gate, then turn left onto Old Hope Road. They re-enter Hope Gardens using the Eastern Entrance, then proceed through the Gardens, exiting onto Gibson Close, then right onto Hope Boulevard, left on to East Charlemont, down to Monterey Drive, right onto Hope Boulevard, then left onto Gibson Drive, right on to South Monterey Road, back to Hope Boulevard, left on to Old Hope Road, then re-enter Hope Gardens using the Historical Gate and proceed to the Finish at the fountain.”
In keeping with all races staged by Running Events, there will be “experienced volunteers and race officials; excellent medical support as well as a number of stations to keep runners and walkers hydrated throughout the event,” Francis said. Participants are also invited to place their breakfast orders with the newly opened Tea House at Hope Gardens, which will be opening early to provide them with a variety of options. The race director also announced that following the successful staging of the 12th annual Reggae Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K event in December, registration is also open for the 2013 renewal, which will be held on Saturday, December 7 in Negril.
