Lancaster & Morecambe AC Athletes See “Plenty of Success”

Louise from Lancaster & Morecambe AC sent us this report on the successes of the club’s athletes in the last few weeks. LMAC is based in the North West of England (UK):

Lancaster & Morecambe AC athletes have been busy racing over the last few weeks, with plenty of success.

There was a choice of two popular 10 mile road races on the 18th November. Two Lancaster athletes took part in the Preston 10 mile; Colin Hewitt ran well in 1h.17.44 with Emily Stapleton having a good run of 1h.26.47.

There were also two local athletes in the Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile; husband and wife David and Carole Wilkinson enjoyed the classic race, with David running 1h.13.39 and Carole finishing in 1h.18.02.

At Wesham 10k road race on 24th November first Lancaster runner was Ian Mercer who finished 89th out of over 450 runners with an excellent run of 41m.37. Close behind was John Spooner running well in 41m.53 to finish 94th and next was Andrew McCracken in 42m.41. First female for the club was Christina McGuire who ran strongly in 44m.54. Christina was well backed up by Carole Wilkinson in 47m.54 and Dawn McCracken in 53m.35. Other finishers: Steve Perry 43m.17, Andrew Haley 43m.43, David Wilkinson 44m.08.

Last weekend there were two well established winter races for local athletes to choose from and despite the freezing temperatures there was a good turnout at both events.

At the Ulverston 10km race first back for the club was Kieran Rowlands, with a strong run of 36m.23 placing him well up the field in 14th place. In next was John Spooner with a fine effort of 41m.19 and the ever consistent David Wilkinson in 44m.48. David’s wife was first female back for the club with a super run of 47m.10. Other finishers: Greg Lambert 45m.18, Keith Carman 51m.27 and finishing together in 51m.30 Anne Dareys and Bill Gardner.

The Guys 10 Mile Road Race attracted most Lancaster runners and Tony Jewitt continued his excellent year with a run of 1h.02.05 placing him 25th out of over 300 runners. Tony was well backed up by teammates Craig Menzies who ran well to complete the course in 1h.06.48 and Sean Davis putting in a solid run of 1h.08.46. First female for Lancaster was Louise Goddard, who had a fantastic run of 1h.10.53. Louise’s club mates packed in well behind her, with Jayne Perry running a good time of 1h.11.59 and Michelle Atkinson 1h.12.16. Two of the club’s ladies had superb runs to take first prize in their age category; Linda Stapleton was first veteran 65 in 1h.37.45 with Evelyn Elkington taking first veteran 75 in 1h.42.58
