Race Report: 20th Hoylake 10k Coastal Run – Sunday 15th September

This report was sent in to us by Carla Williams:

Firstly the Wednesday Special Needs Club who organise the 10k, and which each year raises funds for the Soft Play Sensory Resource for special needs in Hoylake Community Centre would like to give a ‘Massive Thank You’ to all the runners who turned out on Sunday morning to run in pretty horrendous conditions, wind and rain battering them throughout the coastal run from Hoylake to Leasowe and back

We had 670 entries, and all the runners who took part deserve a medal (T.Shirt will have to do this year!!) from the young to the old.

The runners, spectators, volunteers on the day were fantastic and what a cheerful bunch, so thank you

The winner was James Scott-Buccleuch aged 35 from Stockport Harriers in the time of 33.41, and the first female winner over the line was Sarah Roberts aged 33 from Pensby Runners, her time being 42.06

Special thanks to our friend Eddie Mountford who is 90 years young!! He was so determined to complete the 10k this year after recovering from illness, and his time was 88.22 and in terrible conditions – what a star!

Special thanks to all the clubs volunteers and friends who helped on the day.

Thanks to St Johns (Wallasey and Birkenhead Branch), Heart FM Angels who helped with the great atmosphere, especially the two hearts at the turnround, we know the runners really appreciated your support.

Thanks to Esther MvVey (Wirral West MP) who started the run and presented the winners cups at the end

The 10k is terribly important to the WSNC as it is our major fundraiser and all the funds raised from the event go towards the Sensory Resource’s upkeep and maintenance, which is maintained by a small group of enthusiastic volunteers.
