Race Report: Bowood Triathlon Weekend, Wiltshire, 29th – 29th June 2014

The magnificent grounds of Bowood House in Wiltshire provided a perfect venue for the Event Logic UK’s latest ‘Bowood Triathlon series’, on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June. The closed road event attracted a turnout of Children and Adult competitors from all over England. Events Logic UK are keen to keep the growing legacy of the 2012 Olympics going and the Bowood series also provided the opportunity for up to 200 youngsters to compete in a range of tailored Tri Star, Youth and Junior events.

So the scene was set for a glorious day of racing. Saturday races included the Tri England Southwest regional qualifier ,also the start of the Adult races , which continued on the Sunday ,Venue uses the Fantastic Bowood Lake for the swim , cycle route took the racers through the Bowood grounds ,100% traffic free ,finishing with the run leg through the Bowood grounds passing the Lake , waterfall , doric temple.

Saturday provided an opportunity for many young triathletes to take centre stage , hosting the inter-regional Championships for selection to team Southwest. Triathletes aged between nine and nineteen years took on lake swims ranging from two to four hundred metres. Then they set out for the closed road bike race with distances from Three to Twelve kilometres for the oldest triathletes, who are used to competing for their clubs.

Saturday also saw the start of the Adult super sprint triathlon races (400m lake swim / 12km road bike / 2.5km run) and sprint triathlon races (750m Lake swim / 21km road bike / 5km run ) ,these races concluded Sunday .

First Male home in the sprint race was Samuel Woods from Optima Racing team Samuel in a time of 1 hour 7mins and 23 seconds , Second place was Bromham based triathlete Mike Milstead in 1 hour 7mins and 39 seconds , third place went to Adam Wells in 1 hour 10 mins 30 seconds.

First home in the Womens race was Claire Vallance from Mid Oxon CRT in 1hour 21 mins 6 seconds ,second place was Kate Derrick in 1hour 21mins and 25 seconds , third place was Ruth Tucker from Swindon Tri Club in 1 hour 22 mins 17 seconds.

Combined Saturday and Sunday placings for the Super sprint race , First Male Jack Web in 43 mins 42 seconds ,second was Dan Perrins 46mins 36 seconds and third was Lawrence Gurney in 47 mins 13 seconds.

First Female was Karen Scott from Thornbury running club in 49 mins 24 seconds ,second was Laura Emerson in 54 mins 48 seconds ,third place was Sophie Edington in 56 mins 18 seconds.

Events logic directors where very pleased with the running of the second Bowood triathlon ,which saw many improvements on last years race , it was great to see so many families ,spectators taking advantage of Bowood fantastic grounds , Bowood triathlon weekend will be back in 2015 ,dates to be set.

Next up Events for Events logic on 19th July is ¾ distance triathlon , Novice duathlon and Aqua Bike ,venue Lake 62 Cotswolds water park. First Male home was Matt Griffin from Trowbridge. Matt was trailing after swim ,but soon closed in on the Bike leg, he then worked hard to maintain this through run section, completing his race in a time of 1 hour 7mins 27 seconds. Second place male was Charles Pennington ,Third place was Chris Hine. First home in the women’s race was Emma Hughs. She set a good pace for her swim but had a couple of other competitors on her heels for the bike stage. Emma found some extra energy in the run and accelerated away to take first place in 1 hour 15 mins 21 seconds. Second place was Abigail Bagshaw ,Third place Claire Vallence.

The day also provided an opportunity for many young triathletes to take centre stage; hosting the inter-regional Championships for selection to team South West. Triathletes aged between nine and nineteen years took on lake swims, ranging from two to four hundred metres. Then they set out for the closed road bike race with distances from Three to Twelve kilometres and rounded off their events with a run section, ranging from just over a kilometre, up to two and a half kilometres for the oldest participants. Although many of the competitors were young in years, many are already seasoned young triathletes, who are used to competing for their clubs.

Events logic race directors ,where very pleased with the running of Bowoods very first triathlon ,it was great to see so many spectators taking advantage of the great weather ,and Bowoods great facilities. We very much expect this Event to be held yearly.

Event Logic UK’s next event will be a three quarters triathlon and aqua bike event at ELUK’s own lake, set in the heart of the beautiful Cotswold water park on July 14th.
