The Royal Forest of Dean Rotary Club sent us this race report:
This popular race which had to be postponed due to the snow and bitter cold two weeks earlier could not have more pleasant running weather.
There was an early frost as the car park opened but by the start a 10am it was cold but dry and little wind. The reduced field of just over 1000 runners ran through the Forest which shows little sign of Spring yet. After 13 miles of varied trails the three leaders literally had a sprint finish, see picture.
Oliver Williams of Cardiff’s Les Croupiers took first place on 1:16:33, Stephen Francis from Bath, came second on the same time and third was Cardiff AAC’s Peter Ryder on 1:16:33.
First female was Katherine Matthews from Chepstow on 01:27:46. second was fellow FV35 Nicola Gething of Parc-Bryn-Bach, third was Petra Vymetalova of Cheltenham’s Almost Athletes.
