Sharkey Blows Away Rivals!
Nearly 150 runners braved the challenging elements to complete the new 5K and 10K coastal course at Keyhaven. Jon Sharkey, Bournemouth A.C. lead the field into strong south westerly gale force winds to win the 10K race in a time of 35.39. Unattached runner, Will Newberry was second (36.10) with Eastleigh A.C. ‘s Tom Stevens third (36.17).
New Forest Runners’ Becky Hollowbread was the first lady in a time of 44.33 with Sarah Ngugi of Littledown Harriers second senior lady (55.39). Caroline Nesbitt (Lymington Tri Club) was second overall and 1st FV 50 (50.25) with Runningtree Series rival Hayley Payne (Eastleigh A.C.) 1st FV 40 and third overall.
Hardley Runners’ Jan Anglim was first FV 60 (69.37) and Carol Thomas, New Forest Runners was first FV 70 (85.00). Jeff Payne (unattached) was 1st MV 40 (39.54) with race sponsor, Steve Morton (New Forest Runners)
2nd in this category (41.46). Another New Forest Runner, Henry Szwinto was 1st MV 50 (41.53) and club mate, Michael McCabe was 1st MV 60 (44.13). David Peters of Vets A.C. was 1st MV 70 (59.07).The 5K race was on by Edward Waters in a time of 20.45 with Poole A.C.’s Rob Wickham was 2nd in a time of 21.33. New Forest Runner, Olivia Snellgrove was the first lady (24.55) with Beth Chumley, unattached, was 2nd (26.44).
The organisers were surprised that anyone turned up to run in such appalling weather and even more grateful to those who marshalled and helped to put the race on.
