Race Report: Preston Guild Marathon and Half Marathon

The race report is from Lancaster & Morecambe AC, who showed out in force for the Preston Guild Marathon and Half Marathon on 28th October 2012:

“Last weekend saw the first ever Preston Guild full and half marathon events and there was a fantastic turnout from Lancaster & Morecambe AC athletes to enjoy these new races. There were some tremendous performances by the local athletes despite awful weather conditions making the 26.2 miles marathon in particular an even tougher challenge.

“Taking on the full marathon distance was experienced runner John Carr, who showed the weather was no barrier for him by running a superb time of 2h.51.05, which earned him 14th position overall of over 1000 finishers and taking first veteran 50 prize.

“In next was Paul Gardner, with a fine effort of 3h.23.33 placing him 122nd and following Paul was Sean Davis in 130th place with an excellent time of 3h.24.55.

“Nikki Kay was first female for the club, with a great run of 3h.55.12 placing her 18th female overall. Packing in well behind Nikki was Tracey Bruce, running well despite last minute doubts with a time of 3h.58.41 placing her 13th veteran 40 and close behind Tracey was Katherine Cousins with a good effort of 3h.59.11 taking her under the important four hour mark.

“Other finishers: Ian Richardson 3h.29.16, Stephen Gardner 3h.44.12, John Spooner 3h.46.45, Gregory Lambert 3h.49.33 third veteran 60, Liz Hickingbotham 4h.02.45, Christine Gardner 4h.11.38 and Jackie Abell 4h.20.21.

“In the half marathon there were over 2000 finishers and first club runner was Adrian Bruce with a good time of 1h.43.22, followed by Charlie Satterly with a strong run of 1h.46.32. Also running well was Nigel Beeson in 2h.02.47 and Claire Greenwood 2h.16.12.”
