Race Reports: Lancaster & Morecambe AC, 11th June 2014

The latest on the club runners from Lancaster & Morecambe AC, sent in by Road Captain, Louise Gardner:

There have been some great performances by Lancaster & Morecambe AC runners recently at local races.

Over 250 runners turned out for the popular Morecambe 10k last weekend and Lancaster runners were out in force. The course mostly uses the promenade, giving the runners a flat and fast start and finish but there are a few undulations in the middle of the race when the course turns back through Heysham Village and many runners also found the warm conditions tough going.

Phil Lowery was first back for the local club, with a superb run earning him sixth place overall and first veteran 50 with a time of 36m.00. Chasing Phil back in seventh place was David Brown who was rewarded with a good time of 36m.25 and in 14th position was Mark Leadbetter with a fine run of 38m.19.

Lauren Gora was first female for the club and took second place overall with an excellent run of 43m.07, finishing well up the field in 55th place. Lauren was backed up by team mates Sarah Elliott running well in 46m.33 and Carole Wilkinson with a good time of 51m.52.

Other finishers: Luke Ham 39m.04, Calvin Routledge 39m.58, Mark Holgate 40m.41, Gareth Richardson 40m.45, Jon Sear 41m.14, Alex Grebenar 42m.18, Lee Calvert 42m.30, John Spooner 43m.06, Craig Menzies 43m.52, David Wilkinson 44m.35, William Cross 45m.10, Michael Roy 46m.50m, David Dann 49m.54, Gill Hamilton 52m.03, Helena Lewis 52m.58, Anne Dareys 54m.10, Emily Stapleton 54m.58, Brendan Cronin 57m.02, Ashley Toms 58m.53, Michelle Whitton 59m.30, Linda Stapleton 1h.02.32, Susan Hodgson 1h.03.19 and Richard Stapleton 1h.08.42.

At Levens 10k first club runner was David Wilkinson who was 54th overall with a good time of 45m.35, followed by Tony Jewitt in 46m.11 and Michael Roy running 48m.17. Carole Wilkinson took first veteran 50 place with a strong effort of 51m.30.

At the Grasmere Gallop 17km trail race Carolyne Baxter had a fantastic run, storming round the beautiful but very tough course in 1h.15.57 to win the women’s race and finish sixth overall, a great achievement. Lancaster also took second woman’s prize, with Maria Snell having a strong run to finish in 1h.24.01 in 21st place overall. In next was Chris McGuire running well in 1h.32.51 finishing 49th, followed by Mick Leck in 1h.35.57. Zoe Hooton finished in 1h.44.10 with Steve Perry close behind in 1h.44.16.
