Last Saturday saw a small number of runners from Lancaster & Morecambe AC take part in the Stanley Park 10k road race in Blackpool.
First back for the club was Louise Goddard, with a superb run of 42m.28 placing her seventh female, first in the veteran 45 category and 62nd overall. Close behind was Michael Roy with a fine run of 43m.37 finishing 74th. Emily Stapleton ran well in 52m.05, followed by Helen McGregor in 56m.37. Super veteran Evelyn Elkington had a fantastic run, winning the veteran 75 category with a time of 1h.03.33.
The first race in the new Lancaster Half Marathon Series was held last Sunday, with the Grizzly Glasson Dock Half Marathon taking runners through mud, water and tunnels over the 13.1 miles. The race started at the Victoria Inn at Glasson Dock and although the turnout was small all the participants seemed to enjoy the challenging off-road obstacle race and benefited from sunny weather perfect for running.
Winner of the race was Lancaster & Morecambe AC athlete Kev Wilson, who appeared to make light work of the mud and haystacks to power round in an excellent 1h.26.38, well clear of the rest of the field. Next club runner and finishing fifth overall was Andrew Haley in a good time of 1h.41.17 and next in was Michael Roy running well in 1h.44.03. The club had two females running with Liz Hickingbotham and Josephine Kelly enjoying the run with good runs of 2h.12.41 and 2h.18.24 respectively.
Other club finishers: Andrew Whitton 1h.45.13, Harry Blenkinsop 1h.45.19, James Harrison 1h.50.48, Greg Lambert 2h.12.41.
The organisers would like to thank the Victoria Inn for their hospitality and all the marshals who helped on the day.
Other Lancaster & Morecambe athletes took part in Haweswater half marathon on the same day, which was not as muddy but just as challenging with a hilly route facing the runners. First back for the club was John Carr, with a fantastic effort of 1h.23.09 placing him 22nd overall and first in the veteran 50 category. In next was John Spooner, with a strong run of 1h.36.16 placing him 121st overall. Christina McGuire had a great run to finish third in the veteran 50 category in 1h.42.25 and next was Sarah Elliott running well in 1h.50.40.
