Race Report: Mississauga Marathon, Ontario, Canada, 4th May 2014

11th ANNUAL MISSISSAUGA MARATHON CONTINUES TO GROW

MISSISSAUGA – The 11TH annual Mississauga Marathon took place this weekend as more than 9,000 runners took to the streets of scenic Mississauga.
“We are thrilled to bring the community together for another great Mississauga Marathon event,” said Krystal Duz, Race Director. “We are proud to have elite Marathon runners as well as first timers with participants in every age and skill level.”
Over race weekend 9,246 participants took part in the 2014 Mississauga Marathon as the SUBWAY® Restaurants 2K Fun Run with over 1000 participants and the Starbucks Hazel 5K with over 1500 sold out while the Valeant pharmaceuticals had over 1500 participants, over 3300 in the Recharge with Milk Half Marathon, and over 1100 participants in the Full Marathon. Joining those individual participants were 150 relay teams, 120 teams in the 10K Student Relay and 30 teams in the Petrillo Law Relay Challenge.

Maiko Momani Evans of Hamilton was the winner of the men’s Full Marathon in a time of 2:36:50. Chris Jocelyn of Burlington was second at 2:50:12 and Patrick Kelly of Ottawa was third at 2:51:52:. Jenny Malik of Rochester was the winner of the women’s Marathon in a time of 3:08:32. Nicole Mailloux of Mississauga was second at 3:12:52 and Erin Simone of London was third at 3:14:13.

“We are proud to host another successful Mississauga Marathon event this year” said Elliott Kerr, Race Chairman and President of Landmark Sport Group race organizers of the Mississauga Marathon. “We are grateful for all of the community support shown to us over the last 11 years, from the residents, spectators, volunteers, fundraisers raising money through our Scotiabank Charity Challenge in addition to our great City of Mississauga.”
The Mississauga Marathon is truly a community event. More than 1,500 volunteers contributed to the success of the weekend, while thousands of spectators showed their support along the running route with water, banners and cheering squads. The finish area at Lakefront Promenade Park offered live music and entertainment for all runners, friends and families.

The Mississauga Marathon believes in giving back to the community in many ways, through numerous charity partners. For a 2nd year the Scotiabank Charity Challenge gave race participants the opportunity to raise funds for local and national charities. This year’s charitable recipients include: Art Gallery of Mississauga, Autism Ontario – Metro Toronto Chapter, CameronHelps, Canadian Red Cross, Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada, Community Living Mississauga, Crohn’s and Colitis Canada – Mississauga Chapter, GlobalMedic (in collaboration with the Ontario Clean Water Agency), Heart and Stroke Foundation, Heart House Hospice, Islamic Relief, MitoCanada Foundation, SickKids Foundation, Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada, Sunnybrook Foundation, The Arthritis Research Foundation, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, The Mississauga Food Bank, Trillium Health Partners Foundation, United Way of Peel Region, Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation and World Vision Canada.
