Unseasonably chilly spring weather greeted competitors for Events Logic UK’s combined Trail Events on Sunday March 24th at Spirthill.
First to kick off the events were some hardy trail runners who lined up at the start in near freezing conditions to take on either a 6km or a 12km circuit. The challenging cross country route looped around Spirthill Trail, taking runners through both woodland and farmland; presenting competitors with some steep inclines and slippery slopes to manage. First across the finish line in the 6km sprint was Max Matthews who completed the course in 28:06 and the first female finisher was Gail Baker in a time of 35:50. Paul Key was the first to finish the 12km event in a blistering time of 45.52. The first female finisher was Rachel Bown who completed the trail in a time of 55:01.
Next to compete were those in the Fun Run. Some very tough young competitors also braved very wintery conditions to take on a 1.5km trail along with other children, parents and one of the Events Logic UK’s race directors. Lilly Mears whipped round the course in a time of 08:46 to beat all the other fun runners and the superfit race director!
The last event of the day involved some extremely resilient Enduro mountain bike racers, who faced a tough cross country course whilst enduring below freezing wind chill. Enduro competitors raced a tricky 6km bike trail and were challenged to see how many laps they could complete in either two hours or four hours.
The winner of the two hour Enduro race was David Hobbs, who racked up an impressive 3 laps in 1:56:59. Mark Andrews completed a staggering 4 laps to win the four hour Enduro.
One of the Events Logic UK team said that, ‘Today all our competitors were winners. There were some incredible performances in very difficult, wintery conditions. We are hopeful of warmer spring weather for the next series of competitions starting at Abbeyfield School on April 14th. The day will consist of 3 events, a Sprint Duathlon, 10k Run and 23k Cycling Time Trail. We look forward to seeing all budding tri-athletes and du-athletes there’.
